Creative Spaces 2 with Creating Keepsakes GIVEAWAY

So you might remember a couple of summers ago I was honored with having my art studio featured in the premiere issue of Creating Keepsakes Creative Spaces issue which was Edited by my amazing friend Megan Hoeppner.

Here are a few things you may not have known about my art studio...

  • In total, we had 1 week to get this studio together, since we had just moved into our new home here in Colorado.
  • ALL of our furniture fixtures are reclaimed elements found from thrift stores or recycling yards.
  • The table tops and vanity counter in the back (black top) are vintage doors that we took a saw and custom cut to fit. We then paid for custom but and beveled glass to cover the top and make it workable and heat resistant.
  • The back counter is made up of two recycled (and thoroughly disinfected, lol) bathroom vanities.
  • We spent less than $700
  • We have AMAZING friends who with out their help... none of this work would have been possible.

This shot here shows you how we used some old reclaimed cabinet doors as shelves. The top one is a reclaimed stud from the foundation of a house, but the rest are old kitchen cabinet doors that are turned flat side up and anchored with L brackets.

Here is a close up of the vanity counter top that is a combo of two different vintage doors, painted black and cut to size to create this epic counter top. This I think is one of my favorites ♥

Sadly...my room doesn't look nearly as nice as it did in these original shots any more... but hey, that's crafting for you!

Creative Spaces with Creating Keepsakes Magazine!

About 6 months ago, I received an email from the very sweet Megan Hoeppner that pretty much rocked my world :)

It kinda read a little like this...

"Hey Liz, It's Megan...... special issue........craft rooms...... and we would like to see pics of your room.........can you do this by next Thursday?"

Now the email was a little more than that... but I honestly can not remember much of it because all I could think was "OH MY GOODNESS, SHE WANTS TO USE MY CRAFT ROOM NOT IN AN ARTICLE, BUT IN A SPECIAL ISSUE!!!"

This is totally ironic as I had just told James the week before as I perused my most recent issue of Creating Keepsakes "Wouldn't it be cool if one day my room was in one of these magazines?"

His response was " That would be totally cool, why don't we start working on your room in a month or two"

Little did we know that this little thought was percolating in Megan's head and that seriously a week later we would be fully indulged in OPERATION CRAFT ROOM.

So when I initially received the email from Megan, we had just moved into our new home a few months before. With my crazy travel schedule at the time we had unpacked the bare minimums of our home and the craft room was just drywall and concrete. We had $500, one week and the help of our amazing friends to get pictures to Megan.

I am happy with the way that it all came together, but more than anything, it was so wonderful to have the support of my family and friends through this week of getting my room together. A BIG thank you to my sweet friends Tricia Gabriel and Kaydi Homme... without their help and the support of my husband and children, none of this would have been possible.

Here is a sneak peek of the special issue sharing some beautiful images of the sweet Amber Packer's room as well as some of the other fun content that is in the magazine. The magazine has a whopping 45 (I think that is the right amount) rooms, plus bonus articles in the back that give amazing ideas for decor and storage. This is truly an issue that you will want to have on hand. I have read it over and over and still find little things here and there that I love and am inspired by.

I have a few before and during pics I want to try and find to share on the blog this next week... I hope you will come back and enjoy them with me. I will try and do a few posts with some fun little facts about my storage solutions as well as some other fun info about the room. But for now... how about we GIVE AWAY A FREE COPY OF THIS AMAZING ISSUE?????

Simply leave a comment here and I will pick a random winner next week (Wednesday May 18th, 2011). EXTENDED TILL FRIDAY MAY 20th Due to Blogger being down and erasing previous comments.

If you can't wait and NEED your copy NOW... simply click here to buy this fun issue. Use coupon code SPACESBB for FREE SHIPPING!

Thanks for celebrating in my fun little surprise! I am SUPER excited about this, but also that so many of my friends are also a part of this fun project. It is so fun to see how people you know and love craft :)

Have a great day, and remember.. LEAVE A COMMENT TO WIN!!!!

XOXO-

Liz Hicks ♥
