Lanterns: Sparkle and Glow

Okay, this is such and easy trick to beautify those citronella candles that we all NEED right now!

I found the round lantern at Ikea, and the oblong lanterns at Marukai, a local dollar store. both were simple white lanterns just BEGGING to be glimmerized.

So I did it.

And I love how they came out. All in all it was under $10 for the lanterns and candles, and I just sprayed them with glimmer mist to match my decor. I love the way they look illuminated and even during the day they sparkle and shine!

The colors I used were:
round- black cherry, passion red, tiger lily, sunflower, lemon zest, and gold
oblong-lemon zest, gold, tiger lily, iridescent gold, coffee shop
oblong- forest green, turquoise blue, patina, midnight blue, sapphire, deep plum, black cherry

I pretty much do a once over with iridescent gold on everything. it give a slight gold shimmer to anything!
So now, a cool solution to hiding my ugly citronella candles. and they look really cool on our outdoor coffee table.

A little addition: they don't catch on fire as long as you use a candle that is self contained. I used citronella candles in little terra cotta pots. you just need to make sure that the exhaust hole on top is big enough to let the smoke out too, or elst the smoke will extinguish the candle., guess I should have mentioned this earlier!

hope this helps!

So here is to cool bug free nights!!!

HOME

Yesterday, I was able to be a part of history, and it felt good. For as long as I have been a member at Cottonwood Christian Center we as a congregation have battled to build a new church. Our congregation had grown to 4500 (last I heard) and our sanctuary sat 770. Every week our pastor Bayless Conley graciously served 6 services (with overflow facilities off site) and one spanish service to accomidate to all. Today, our new facility opened. Why is this so historic? Read about it here.
For us, this was an overcoming joy to see the reality of our sacrifices come through. For so long we had seen computer generated images of what was to come, and now we see the true faithfulness of God in this building, and it is good!
So thank you for reading my little post of excitement, after so much hardship to get our land, recieve building permits, and the hardships of building the facility, it is now and will forever be a part of history, and an inspration and landmark for churches in the future who are dealing with the same eminent domain struggles.
Today, is a good day!

Impulse buying

Well, this is one of them. But in a very good way! I was on my way to the grocery store when I had this sudden urge to go to the thrift store next door. I love thrift stores, but with three kids in tow, it is kind of a suicide mission if you know what I mean! Regardless, I needed to get into that store!!! As I walked in I went straight to the frames and found this little mexican beauty. This 20x24 frame was sitting there battered and bruised just asking to come home with me. $15 bucks later (it was $30 and my appalled expression won me 50% off!), I had a new project in my hands.
Well my obsession didn't stop there, throughout the grocery store, I kept thinking of this little beauty and well I knew even before I bought it what I was going to do with it. It was ingrained in my brain just what this was supposed to be.
After the grocery store, I went home, put away the perishables and with the kids playing next to me, we sat in my front yard and repurposed this beat up beauty.
After a whole lot of sanding, a little paint and glimmer mist. I came up with this:

So whatcha think?
I LOVE it! I just wish my camera would have caught the glimpses of shimmer that it gives off. Our living room is kind of a Morroccan work in progress, so this fits perfectly. We love wood worked pieces and colored lanterns and with the rest of the textures in the room, this fits in wonderfully!
Products used:
Paint- Making memories: waterslide, ocean blue, dusk and evergreen
Glimmer Mist- Tattered Angels: Patina, turqouise blue, copper, gold and iredescent gold (I LOVE these colors, but especially iridescent gold!)
so it doesn't take much to give something old a face lift. BTW, did I mention that Prima is sponsoring a go green contest? Check it out here!
Tonight is the opening night of our new church facility. I am going to try and take pics, being that this has consumed our lives since even before we were married. Together as a congregation we have sacrficed, just for tonight. I cried every time I saw the computer generated pics of what the facility would look like, and now it is reality. Now that's cool.
have a great Saturday!

Another MISTifying creation!

THE STORY OF US

white flowers dyed with glimmer mist

(thanks to trish for this trick!)

This LO is for my husband. We met in March of 2001 and that Easter he took me to his church for Easter services, and I was blown away. The service was a performance of the pursecution of Christ. It hit me hard. I sat there next to him just crying. I knew at that point that this man had faith, and he held it strong and dear to his heart. From that moment forward I was drawn like a magnet to Cottonwood Christian Center . I never knew just how much I needed a relationship with Christ until I met James and he shared his love for God with me. It only took me a few months to dedicate my life to Christ but from that moment on Easter as I kissed him on our way home, I knew he was for me and I for him. So this pic was taken 7 years later, Easter service with 3 kids in the background in the same parking lot with the same love behind it. I thank him for making my life full and showing me just how rich and beautiful a life in Christ can be.

So with this, I hope you find yourself scrapping about you and that someone, whether it be a child, your mate, your mother, father any one special to you. Create a story of US for that special person and record it so that everyone can know your story. If you do take on this challenge, email me @ primadonnaliz@yahoo.com and I will try and post your creations. I do hope you find the time to join in since it is the essence of why we scrap, to let someone know just how we feel about them and in reality we need to make it on a page or two once in a while too!!!

thanks for peeking, I am going to go and get a tissue now! I know I am such a wimp!

some fun stuff,

Paintables, glimmer mist and Dude cards...OH MY!

Paintable doen with girly glimmer mist colors

Thank you card using Dude line from Prima

Boyish paintable using Glimmer mist

Dude where's my card class

Well, like I said I have been up to something, definitely. Here are a few projects that I have had in the works and I have failed to post pics of. BTW, I am IN LOVE with glimmer mists. I have been using them seriously on every project, and am amazed!!! The paintables started off black and white but with just a few colors of glimmer mist they have a whole new look. I like the look and ease of glimmer mist because it is a one stop shop with the paintables. I also have used watercolor pencils and crayons, alcohol inks, stained glass paints glaze pens, and souffle pens. The possibilities are endless with paintables.

The "Dude Where's my Card" class is coming up at Scrapbooking Heaven in Huntington Beach, Ca. in July. With these cards I used the Dude rub-ons and paper line. We also are using some non traditional scrap items and altering crystals with this one. I haven't done a card class and am looking forward to this!

I would love to post some of my buds projects here if you ever have anything you are proud of and want to show off, then let me know!

Up to something....

As always, I am up to something, usually family stuff but this time I have a little scrappy news to share too!

First off, how do you like my tunes? Yes once again, I decided to beautify my blog, but this time with my most favorite thing in the world...music. I absolutely LOVE music, it was my life before I had my kids and found scrapbooking. I have been singing since I was in grade school, and my high school had the most AMAZING choir department. I know this now as I have been in various other groups and have realized just what a blessing my music education has been.

Most likely you may not make it past the first tune, but the rest are just as wonderful, well to me at least! I started my playlist out with Another Hallelujah by Lincoln Brewster, whom I always assumed was from Hillsong in Australia, but he is actually a states boy, and not just that from Modesto California!!! Well, I love the song and most people will notice it from Shrek, but it actually is a REALLY beautiful worship song, Huh who'd a thought on Shrek? The Next is a song from I think She's having a baby, (one of my favorite 80's movies) although the original sounds a bit different, this was the only one I could find on playlist and well, the words are so pretty and the music just rocks. Third, WORLD by Five for Fighting. I heard this song so many times last year and yet it still brings me to tears. Five for fighting started a charity where everyday people could use this song and add it to their own music video for a cause. Being that I was dealing with Autism with Sawyer last year, I received different links to different peoples videos from many of my friends. I watched them, as much as I could but from there I gained strength, knowing that God had a bigger plan for my boy, and in him I was helping to create the world that I want. I am tearing up just thinking about it.

The rest of the songs are a hodge podge of this and that that reflect what I like and well, what I have to listen to all the time ( hence the veggietales, but who doesn't like the cheeseburger song?) A little folk, a little 80's, a little alternative, jazz, show tunes, worship, and classical, new age, have I missed anything?

Besides that I am up to something on the Fire and Ice blog. Each week I will be posting a new Primadonna that we will be featuring on there. We will be sharing the tricks of the trade and some pretty nifty ideas that we have come up with for these clear albums. This week, straight from Hamburg, Germany is Nathalie Kalbach. A totally cool chick that you can check out here.

Every Wednesday we will be changing the Primadonna so be sure to check out the blog for some cool and fun tricks and techniques.

Thanks for peeking!

Blog Mixing

If you have looked at my profile lately you may have noticed a change...

I was asked to help moderate and decorate over @ Fire and Ice Designs.

First off I LOOOVE these girls, and they truly are Fire and Ice, because they couldn't be more different but they are a perfect Ying and Yang to the team. And they are best friends.

Trish and Michelle are the designers of the new Build A Book system from Prima Marketing Inc. Their concept is AMAZING, taking different styles of clear album pages and building them together into one magnificent masterpiece. So you can have your basic 6x6, add a 6x6 with a star tab, add a star page, and add another tab page to create an original album masterpiece!!!

I met the girls last CHA working the Prima booth. This past month I roomed with Trish at Prima Hybrid training and we just clicked. So the last few weeks, Trish, Michelle and I have been back and forth with ideas for their blog and logo. I was asked to create their new logo and help with their blog. so with their inspiration... This is what I came up with for them.

So, Whatcha think?

let me know~

I am so happy with the results but would love everyone's opinion on it.

thanks!

Hmmph...

Today was weird. Wednesdays are usually my busy days. Today was just like any other Wednesday, I took the kids to speech and then went to pick up Lindsey our friends little girl from school. It was there that my normal busy Wednesday took a turn. While waiting for Lindsey, someone backed into my car. I was sitting there thinking "Oh my GOODNESS!!!" and even though I honked my horn, BAM. The damage is minimal, but the stress of having to get my car to the shop and get a rental, Argh!!! Oh well, just another something to add to my week!!! Tomorrow is Sawyers last day of preschool and hopefully I can get everything done before we go.

Here's to weirdness!

LOL!
