Mist-o-logy 101 part 1 of 2

First I must start off by thanking all of you who made it to the chat on Saturday, it was AWESOME!!! We chatted 3 hours straight about Prima, Tattered Angels, scrapbooking, husbands, scrapbooking husbands, and everything else. I have decided to post some of the tips and techniques I shared here on the blog so that they would be available for everyone. Unfortunately the chat widget doesn't archive, so this is the next best thing!

First a few basics with using Glimmer mist:

Shaking- I know this sounds so basic, but it actually helps me ALOT! I found it easiest to shake my bottles side to side rather than up and down. The reason being that when I shook them up and down, excess would gather in the lid and spray nozzle and when I opened it, it would leak all over my hands. I didn't mind it on my hands, but the thought of losing glimmer mist, unthinkable.

Double duty: This idea came to me while I saw all of the glimmer mist that I was wasting while spraying it on a project. I came up with a simple solution of placing tissue paper underneath while I was spraying. I hold it up a bit higher than the tissue paper so that the glimmer mist doesn't saturate the tissue paper but actually just falls lightly on to it. You could also use this technique with a gift bag as well to complete the pair. Anything will work!

Using Glimmer mist as a water color: This is another simple one, but still a good one. Just using Glimmer mist in an artist palette with a watercolor brush broadens the versatility of glimmer mist.
Altering basic items: Using glimmer mist gives you the benefit of altering the color of all of your projects or embellishments to your specific needs. A tip given to me by Trish one of the Tattered Angels DT members was to use white flowers and customize them to your project. You can also use white or pale colored lace or ribbon and alter it to your project. To enhance the color of your colored flowers you can apply similar colored glimmer mist or even a complimentary color to highlight and shadow it. This gives your flower depth and accents the curves of Prima's flowers. And just like you can alter lace, ribbon and flowers, you can do just about anything else, craft paper, white paper, patterned paper, even black card stock looks AMAZING with glimmer mist on it.

Glimmer mist your picture: Print your pic in black and white onto watercolor paper, allow it to dry for a few minutes. and apply glimmer mist with a watercolor paintbrush to you pic sparingly. Use enough so that the color shows but not to much that it will over saturate and smear the pic. I was able to use this pic below which is a nice scenery pic of my daughter picking apples in Oak Glen Ca. I colored the scenery with glimmer mist changing this pic to a dreamy almost fairy-like pic. I left my daughter in black and white so that she would stand out. I really don't recommended using the glimmer mist on portraits, maybe as an accent onto clothing, but not on faces, I tried it on a pic of my daughter and she was very shimmery, so much that it didn't compliment her at all.

Here is the original
Here is the same pic after being glimmerized with glimmer mist

And here is a close up of the trees that are highlighted with a lighter color

Well this post is already becoming lengthy so I will cut it for now and continue in another one. The next post will talk about using glimmer mist with the Build a book album, mixology, masking and anything else I can remember or think up between now and then! For better pics of these projects check out the so cal scrap site gallery.
Until next time!

This site is offering a free online crop this weekend to celebrate their 1st anniversary!!!

So come check us out, from 2-4 on Saturday August 16th, we will be chatting up and having fun! I have TONS of product to raffle off, so there will be some of my I spy games, challenges and contests. If you check the site out now, you will notice two challenges that I have already posted An Altered Ego Challenge (giving "classic" product a new twist), and everyones favorite, ALL things PRIMA Challenge creating a project using ONLY PRIMA (minus CS and PP). But if you have a chance this Saturday, come check the site out. and drop me a little hello. This is my first chat so I am VERY excited!

As a Bonus for my blog buddies, post to this thread and come say hi to me on the so cal scrap site and I will do a random drawing of a couple things from my Prima stash.

Silver and Gold...

I am hooked on the olympics, well gymnastics, swimming and (if I ever catch it) diving to be exact. Last night me and James were watching mens swimming and just watching Michael Phelps swim is amazing. His body being double jointed in his knee and his ankle, he looked like a fish! It is miraculous how swimmers bodies move, so graceful.

So just though I would add, to this little eclectic web log of mine that at this point in my life, itis the Olympics that has my hooked!

MORE pics from CHA

New clear paintables

New viola! and introducing felt gates

New Clear stamps

New glittered transparencies

Scrapping in the hotel room

Sorry it has taken me a bit of time to get back on track, but here are some more pics of product from the booth. The felt gates are brand new and are reinforced with a bit of acrylic for ease of application, they also fit right onto the new Build a Book gated album. The new viola is soooo cute, there are even some new christmas designs. The stamps are amazing as well, there are individual stamps alpha's and a variety of sets. Tons to choose from!!! The new transparencies are glittered and way to cute, there also is a collage sheet tranparency that is nicely vintaged. And the new clear paintables are totally adorable!

And of course I had to add a pic of the group scrapping! That is all we did, all night long!

Hope this satisfies your CHA appetite for now!

For the good of Aaron

As most of you know, I have a passion for Autism. When I heard about Noel's nephew and the struggles that his family go through on a day to day basis. it just latched to my heart. Locally we have been working on raising funds to get Aaron his service dog.

Last week the SO Cal Scrapbook retailers had their Vendor Faire. I was asked by Sophia of strictly scrapbooking to organize something for Aaron so that we could help him raise money. We came up with a raffle and product was graciously donated by all the vendors at the show. Together, we raised $595 for Aaron's dog. And the winner ended up being Sophia! She graciously donated the basket back and is now selling raffle tickets for $10 at her store to raise even more money for Aaron.
I estimate that there is roughly about $1000 of product in there. American Crafts donated 27 packs of Thickers, one of each from their display (over $300 alone!) Making Memories donated TONS of stuff (close to $300 as well) My Minds Eye Donated 4 complete paper line kits, and so much more!!! I only wish I could remember what was in the basket. The picture should give you a good idea though.
So if you are interested in purchasing a ticket, ANYONE can buy one!!! check out the store site for contact info adn they will hook you up.
Aaron is soooooo close to getting his dog, I really hope this pushes his funds over the edge and he will get his dog!!!
XOXO

PIcs from CHA post 4~ Friends

OK, yesterday I downloaded the pics form my memory card, all 900 of them and realized I am way behind on my blogging. This post is of the girls from CHA. One of my favorite things about CHA is getting together with like minded people who have a passion for the same things in life.

This pic of me and Lauren, you can't see it but she is wearing my apron, is one of my favorites. Lauren came into my life like a whirl wind, but seriously a girl who will stick by her peeps! I just love the life that bubbles over in Lauren. And she is a fellow mom of little ones, hearing her stories just fascinates me and encourages me that I am right where I need to be in life! This girl makes art happen.

Oh the CKMB girls, I only had a quick moment to grab a hot dog with Noel and Latrice, but I had such a blast. And I have to say this pic was taken by the southern princess, Gretchen. It was a true pleasure meeting Latrice, she was TALL! and a total sweetheart. And of course I love my time with Noel too, she is always fun to be around.
LOL, I had to add this one of Tina, We took this while out to dinner, and celebrating Tina's "UN" birthday. Doesn't she look totally cute? Tina, you are one hot mama!

And Jen, one of my new favorite people. I had a blast chatting the night away with Donna, Jenn and Lauren. Jen is a fellow Primadonna and does alot of work with Ranger.
It was nice seeing old friends and making some new, I have tons of pics... someday soon I will get around to posting them all!!!
